SOCIAL SERVICES:


The Psychiatric Social Work Department is a branch of the Hospital committed to promoting and improving the welfare of people with mental health problems throughout Barbados. Our experience of working in the Hospital and in the community with mentally ill persons has helped us to quickly identify their individual needs and those of their caregivers, enabling us to respond quickly, sensitively and flexibly.

Staffing:-

The Psychiatric Social Word Department comprise of:-
  • One Senior Psychiatric Social Worker
  • Four Psychiatric Social Workers

  • Functions:

    The Psychiatric Social Worker forms part of the Multi-Disciplinary hospital Treatment Team that provides comprehensive health care for patients e.g. treatment and discharge planning.

    The functions are:-

  • Casework management
  • To provide investigative reports
  • To provide counselling services for individuals, groups and families
  • To assist in job placement
  • To assist with provision of housing e.g. individual housing, group housing and alternative care housing program
  • To assist patients in their transition into the community with the aid of a hospital-based quarter way house
  • Placing and maintaining the mentally ill in community outreach programs e.g. Roseville Halfway House
  • Assist in the general management of patients property
  • Linking with other Social Service Agencies
  • Advocating on the patients behalf
  • Research
